Well Water
We consider well water testing one of the most important screenings
that we do. Wells are often exposed to many different physical and
environmental hazards, such as fertilizers, diesel particulates,
microbial overgrowth, and hundreds of toxic contaminants. Key Laboratory
Services can screen your private water supply
for any chemically identified component. Let us know what
problems you are experiencing, and our experienced staff will determine
the appropriate tests for your well water.
Basic recommended screening for well water includes coliform analysis
including the identification of E coli, along with nitrates. These tests
are considered routine and should be performed semi-annually to ensure
quality and safety. A regular chlorination schedule should also be set
up for your well to keep microbial levels low. We suggest following the
recommendations set by the Illinois Department of Public Health for
appropriate chlorination levels, based on the size of your well.

- Coliform screening, including fecal coliform (E coli). This test
includes detection and enumeration using the Multiple Tube
Fermentation method to calculate
MPN, as approved by the Illinois Department of Public
Health (IDPH)
and the EPA.
- Coliform / nitrate private well analysis. An informational
nitrate profile is included in our Well Water Testing package.

Bottled Water
Key Laboratory Services screens bottled water according to the
FDA
Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)
which establish microbiological quality requirements. Weekly coliform
screening should be performed for each type of bottled water produced in
a plant, along with coliform testing on any water source other than the
public water system. A minimum of 4 containers and closures are selected
for Heterotrophic Plate Count (HPC)
and coliforms prior to fullfilling and sealing.
